Okurimono Japan is a guide, not a shop. “Check Price” takes you to a shop in Japan — Discovery Japan Mall for most items, Hocho Knife for kitchen knives — and you order, pay and arrange any return with that shop, on its terms. Here is how it works, and what to check before you buy.

You pay the shop directly, with the payment methods it offers at checkout. The shop packs the order in Japan and ships it with tracking. How long it takes, and whether import duties or taxes apply, depends on the item, your address and the shop’s terms — check them before you order.

Two shops, both based in Japan. Discovery Japan Mall is a retailer, not the official shop of Casio, Seiko, Shimano or the other brands it sells. The link on each product tells you which shop it opens.

- Do I pay anything to Okurimono Japan?
- No. You pay the shop, at the shop’s price. If you buy through a link here, the shop pays us a small commission — it never changes what you pay.
- Who do I buy from?
- From the shop the button opens: Discovery Japan Mall for most items, Hocho Knife for kitchen knives. Your order, payment, shipping and any return are handled by that shop under its own terms, not by Okurimono Japan.
- Is the price on this site exact?
- No. For Discovery Japan Mall it is an approximation in US dollars from the yen price at the time of writing; for Hocho Knife it is the shop’s dollar price on the date checked. The live price, in your currency, is on the shop’s page behind “Check Price”.
- Will I have to pay import duties or taxes?
- Possibly. Orders from abroad can be subject to import duties, taxes and customs clearance fees. Whether they apply, how much, and how they are collected depend on your country, the item, the shipping method and the shop’s terms, and they are not always included in the item price or shipping. Check the shop’s shipping and customs pages and the total at checkout before you order. The two shops here differ: Hocho Knife says it advances and pays US import duties on eligible orders, while Discovery Japan Mall says duties and taxes aren’t included and are collected on delivery where they apply. In the US, duty-free de minimis treatment was suspended for all countries from August 29, 2025, so don’t rely on an old duty-free threshold.
- How long does delivery take?
- It depends on the shop, the item and your address. Discovery Japan Mall says orders usually ship within 5 business days of ordering, and longer if the item has to reach its warehouse first. Hocho Knife says it ships within 3–5 business days of payment for most knives, by FedEx or EMS. Customs can add time, and no one can guarantee arrival by a particular date, so order well ahead of a birthday or holiday.
- Can I return something?
- Only on the shop’s terms. Discovery Japan Mall accepts returns or exchanges for items that arrive damaged, defective or incorrect, reported within 7 days of delivery, and not change-of-mind returns. Hocho Knife accepts returns within 14 days of delivery for items that are unopened and unused. Check the parcel when it arrives, even if the gift is for later.
- Is there a warranty if I live outside Japan?
- It depends on the shop and the product. Discovery Japan Mall says its products are Japanese domestic models whose domestic warranty isn’t valid overseas unless a worldwide warranty card is included, and that warranty repairs mean shipping to Japan at your cost. For Hocho Knife, ask the shop. Check the product page and the shop’s policy.
- Does it come in a box, and can it be gift-wrapped?
- The product box and gift wrapping are different things. What’s in the box varies by product, so check the product page. Hocho Knife offers gift wrapping and a message card as options at checkout; Discovery Japan Mall doesn’t list it as a standard service, so ask before ordering if presentation matters.
